Rodolfo Navarro Exhibition "La Transfiguración"

Aurum Altea Art Gallery proudly invites you to explore the latest exhibition by renowned Spanish artist Rodolfo Navarro, “La Transfiguración”, hosted at the prestigious Palacio Cervelló in Valencia, a historic venue that celebrates the best in contemporary art.

Exhibition Concept

Rodolfo Navarro, known for his geometric and creative approach, delves into the duality between dimensions—flat and spatial. This exhibition offers a unique dialogue between paintings and sculptures, with a focus on the transformation of the human figure through geometric and artistic interpretations.

La Transfiguración: A Dialogue Between Painting and Sculpture

In the glass-roofed courtyard of the Palace of the Counts of Cervelló (Plaza Tetuán, nº 3, Valencia), a monumental 120 m² artwork is displayed, merging painting and sculpture while exploring the dialogue between two and three dimensions.

The Artwork

The painting, laid on the courtyard floor, represents a transition point between figuration and geometric abstraction. Painted figures include three-dimensional sculptures that are visually and physically integrated into the composition, symbolizing a “bridge” between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional.

The entire work is divided into sections that are available for purchase. Each piece is accompanied by a photograph indicating its original location within the larger work and its placement in the museum’s courtyard.

The Sculptures

  • Central Couple: Two monumental sculptures, each 2.8 meters tall, are the centerpiece of the courtyard. Titled “Pareja x 2”, these pieces symbolize the connection between painting and volume, with painted bases and patinated surfaces in shades of green bronze. Their design creates a conceptual link between the painting and the palace’s architecture.
  • Additional Sculptures: Sketches and smaller-scale versions of the monumental sculptures are also displayed at the entrance counter.
  • Two Torsos: Cast in bronze, these pieces are exhibited in the hallways beneath the arches, complementing the artistic proposal with the same aesthetic and conceptual principles as the central sculptures. The painted pedestals visually connect the torsos to the monumental sculptures at the artwork’s center.

Materials and Techniques

  • Horizontal Painting: Crafted exclusively from paper, it consists of multiple layers adhered together, forming a solid and durable surface.
  • Final Sections: Each section of the painting is mounted on canvas or wooden panels and finished in oil, achieving a flawless surface rich in subtleties and glazes. All sections are framed with a fine wooden strip.

This installation transforms the courtyard of the Palace of the Counts of Cervelló into a space where painting, sculpture, and architecture merge into a unique artistic experience.

Transforming Spaces: The Vision of Rodolfo Navarro

Rodolfo Navarro, with 40 years of uninterrupted artistic work, is a multidisciplinary artist who challenges the boundaries between painting and sculpture. Known for his ability to transform spaces and merge dimensions, Navarro creates monumental works that invite viewers to explore the dialogue between the two-dimensional and the three-dimensional.

His concept of Plastic Interaction redefines the relationship between visual arts, blending pictorial and sculptural techniques into a unique language. In his works, sculptures emerge not only as physical extensions of the paintings but also as protagonists in a shared space where colors, shapes, and volumes complement and contrast each other.

Navarro has held landmark exhibitions in various countries, particularly known for his giant paintings spanning hundreds of square meters. Often conceived as immersive installations, these works are fragmented into individual pieces, each with its own identity but united under the conceptual framework of the whole.

In his artistic vision, the interaction between painting and sculpture becomes a bridge between tradition and modernity, between figuration and abstraction, and between contemplation and sensory experience. Navarro transforms each exhibition into an immersive environment where the display space not only frames the artwork but becomes an integral part of it.

With projects like La Transfiguración –his most recent intervention at the Palace of the Counts of Cervelló–, Rodolfo Navarro continues to expand the boundaries of artistic creation, offering an innovative approach that connects art with architecture, emotion, and critical thinking.
