How do the colors of the Mediterranean influence your abstract paintings? Can you describe how this vibrant environment shapes your work?
The colors of the Mediterranean have a significant influence on my paintings, due to their richness and diversity.
Shades of blue, turquoise, yellow, orange, and beige often evoke the sky, the sea, the sun, the sand, and a sunset. A harmony of natural and vibrant colors.
Inspiration is everywhere: the sea, coastal landscapes, and picturesque villages.
A visual and emotional richness, perfect for abstract paintings.
Abstract works offer great freedom of interpretation, inviting a personal interpretation (experiences, emotions, environment, etc.).
You mention being inspired by artists like Henri Matisse, Signac, and Jackson Pollock. How have their specific styles influenced your approach to color and abstraction?
H. Matisse, P. Signac, and J. Pollock have made a large contribution to my art, particularly through their use of a wide color palette.
- Matisse: For his intense and vivid colors, as well as his forms.
- Signac: Harmony of colors and luminosity.
- Pollock: Dripping technique.
As a result, my works are dynamic, expressive, and luminous. My gestures and movements bring an explosion of colors and shapes, from which energy and emotional depth emerge.
My creative process is different for each work. For example:
- Sweet Dream: The entire process came to me instantly; I knew the final result in my head.
- Splash: I had a splash in my mind, as if a stone had been thrown into a puddle of water, causing splashes to rise.
- Magic Blues: The idea was to work, in the final phase, on stretching the paint. Hence the golden lace effect that can be seen on the canvas.
- Purple Canyon: A cell work was carried out (white forms).
Could you elaborate on your use of pouring and dripping techniques in your paintings? What draws you to these methods, and how do they impact the final artwork?
Fluid art is an abstract art technique offering great freedom of expression with infinite possibilities.
In pouring, each pour is unique; the patterns and color interactions are controlled. These vibrant and dynamic works create marbled effects and smooth transitions between colors.
In dripping, the random drips and splashes on the canvas allow for freedom of movement and gestural, energetic, and expressive expression, adding a dimension of movement and spontaneity, thus creating a rich and complex texture.
By combining these two techniques, I can explore dynamism and texture, allowing me to create rich and multi-dimensional works that are visually captivating and powerful. It’s a blend of complexity and harmony (see Japanese Garden on my website).
Having lived in both France and Spain, how does the cultural shift between the French Riviera and Costa Blanca influence your work? Are there specific elements of each region that inspire you differently?
The similarity between the Côte d’Azur and the Costa Blanca is the richness of cultural and visual inspiration, which is conducive to artistic creation.
The Côte d’Azur inspires me with its exceptional light (vivid colors, contrast, and brightness), and the Costa Blanca for its serenity and natural beauty.
When you start working on a new art project, how do you choose the theme or motif? Are there any rituals or processes you follow before beginning a piece?
Each new artistic project is exciting. However, several steps are necessary to complete a work:
- Choosing the canvas size
- Preparing the canvas
- Preparing the workspace (protection, etc.)
- Inspiration
- Selecting the paints and materials
- Creation
- Observation (taking a step back, adjustments)
- Drying
- Signing the work
- Varnishing
- Creating the artwork description.
I need to be in a calm and peaceful environment. I have a very clear idea of the colors I will use before starting my creations. Instinct and inspiration come gradually as the work progresses.
Do you use specific music, environments, or other sources of inspiration when working? What role does atmosphere play in your creative process?
My workspace is well-organized, clear, and calm.
Natural light is necessary for the realization of my canvases in the studio. I can paint for hours on end.
How do you balance your creative work with other aspects of life, such as family, personal relationships, or other responsibilities? Does art help you maintain this balance?
My life is well-structured, and I find time to balance it properly.
Art is an expression that allows you to escape and connect with your emotions. I have very few constraints, which enables me to find balance between my personal life and my artistic inspirations.
